Action Alert: Help Save Andrea Mortlock

Are any of us in a position to write to the INS in an effort to assist this AIDs patient and mother of two? A template letter is included. This was sent from a friend in New York who is also a friend of the attorney representing Ms. Mortlock.

We are writing to ask for your support and immediate action in the case of Andrea Mortlock, a 41-year-old woman from Jamaica who is living with full-blown AIDS and has been detained at the Passaic County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey for the past three weeks. Ms. Mortlock suffers from extreme wasting, neuropathy and other AIDS-related conditions that have been exacerbated by her continued detention at Passaic County Jail, a facility which has a longstanding reputation as one of the worst detention facilities in the nation and which has recently come under scrutiny specifically for its substandard HIV/AIDS care ("2 Men Say Passaic Denied Them AIDS Drugs," New Jersey Herald, August 24, 2005).

During the first three days of her detention, Ms. Mortlock reports that she did not receive any AIDS medications whatsoever.
