It is not for nothing that there is a very popular and common saying, "The good die young." In so many ways, it is a great blessing to leave this world fairly early, instead of agonizingly dying a few cells at a time, from "old age." In many ways, that is the easier way out!
The bottom line is, We all have to get out of here! No one lives on earth; we are all "jvtp"-- just visiting this planet."! And, in the vast and immense universe, earth is considerably smaller than a molecule!
Early Christians were believed "nuts" because they welcomed death, with genuine smiles and open arms! This was so very alien to their culture, as it is to ours! But if we keep in mind the deeper, spiritual meaning and results of "death," we can see that those who leave earth behind are losing nothing, and gaining everything!
Jesus came to prove that death was a survivable experience!

Happiness and Money

The text quoting Jesus as asking, "what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" is a warning. It is telling us that life with only material riches ("the whole world") is a dead-end life. For riches cannot bring happiness, joy,fulfillment, contentment, or real satisfaction.
Very poor people often fantasize that, if only they had enough money, all their problems would be solved, and they would be completely happy. This perspective reflects only the desperation of their poverty. It does not reflect truth. As evidence, most winners of the lottery selfdescribe their lives as "unhappy" all the way to "utterly miserable."
If money cannot "profit" one, create real happiness, what can? The very question betrays our spiritual lack. For we all already know, deep down, that happiness arises from friends, Love, companionship, interaction, work, and play. A person who is truly happy does even work, not simply to earn money, but to better herself and the world.
Finding the "Soul," the deepest personal Mind, creates true peace and happiness, for it is this that we are designed to do. For the same reason that water satisfies thirst ("we were made to drink water"), only wisdom and spiritual understanding (gnosis) can make human beings content.

Mild Spiritual Experiences

Professional psychological statistics show that between 33-48% of the populations of the U.S., Britain, and Australia have experienced mild "religious experiences," which some call "re's." In selfdescriptions and interviews, the characteristics associated with these tastes of altered states include:
Some experiences are esthetic, and these can be quite as powerful as those described as "religious." Music or other forms of beauty often trigger these. The "beauty of nature" is a common trigger for religious experiences.
This term can refer to very mild religious feelings. But the way in which it will be used here is to describe intense altered states of mind, clearly differentiated from normal everyday consciousness.
The very zenith of religious experience is the mystical. It is the peak, the best. Perhaps two percent of all re's are mystical.
An re tends to have a lasting effect on your life; its "footprint" is always there, in your heart. Re's are very democratic, and occur regularly to people of all faiths. (They can be extremely rare in denominations or cults that try to "explain" everything intellectually; they occur far more often in the intuitive personality than in the intellectual or pseudo-intellectual.)
Re's are thought to give the normal mind access to interior but transcendent realities. They "carry" you to what shamans call "another world."
A genuine re is not just a feeling; it involves a genuine altered state of perception and reality. Highly visionary forms, as contrasted with the purely mystical (which alter feeling) might contain images of Jesus, the Buddha, Parvati, Krishna, or Mary. At one extreme, the person might feel that she has become a completely different "self." In Western culture, this intensity is often described as the "born again" experience, but, again, members of any faith-- or none at all-- can experience the sensation of rebirth.
Real re's tend to occur in solitude and silence.
In re's, people often report paranormal events, ranging from spontaneous healings to precognitive flashes. Deja vu, esp, and clairvoyance are common. True re's often happen to older people, with some education.
Re's lead to positive life-changes and to life-satisfaction. ("Occult" experiences can lead to the opposite.) Specifically, re's lead to increased tranquility, being "at home" in the universe, and greater happiness. Most rde's (real-death experiences) begin with extremely powerful re's.
Here are some other factors associated with spiritual experience:
God is known, in the deepest experiences, as being "inside" or "within" the person-- deep within the heartmind. The experience brings both interior healing, and healing of relationships. Love is seen as the only essential. Light is felt "within" and "all around" at the same time. Most importantly, the deepest experiences are marked by an inignorable sense of "unity" with an "Absolute," "Ultimate," or simply "everything."
The feeling is that of falling into a vast, immense Mind of pure Love.
It is not unusual for these amazing states to occur during meditation, deep interior (or silent) prayer, or yoga.
A true re always has a component of social transformation: It changes the relationship with community. It makes one more people-loving, and impels one to serve people (and other living creatures). The sense of ultimate, limitless Love flows over into social situations, and one might feel gently melted into warm Love; one becomes Love.
The re creates an increase in openness to the cosmos, to other views of "truth." It amplifies one's tenderness, gentleness, empathy, and forgiveness.
In the very deepest (mystical) experience, there are no images or visions. They all have to do with only feelings.

Worshipping Love

Your note brought megaphotons of joyful light into the local "world" here! Your sheer joy, a fruit of the Spirit, poured out of every word. This does not mean that you will never again have a "lower energy" day, but this uplifting feeling (mood) is a simple foretaste of your inevitable future. For your Soul is just beginning to feel its ecstatic freedom, and It is celebrating!:)
Re your boys: You are right: They are your sacred assignment from the cosmos. You will never be responsible for everything that they do or say. For, especially as they grow into adulthood, they have to live out their chosen and designed destiny, lifeplan, or life-agenda. This might have little to do with you, although they have certainly been blessed with a smart and compassionate mother. And this fact will bless them forever!:)
We who believe that God is Love take this truth very,very seriously. This means nothing less than that we worship Love. This makes us better people every day. We uplift compassion, kindness, and goodness-- all as expressions of Love. The very best gift that you could ever give your boys is to explain this fact to them.
Most people claim to "believe in" and even "worship" God. But when you ask them exactly what it is that they worship, they are often silent, or confused; it seems as if they have never given the question any thought. Many, of course, worship the "ultimate extraterrestrial"-- some "external god" in outer space. Others worship the confused, contradictory impossibility of the attempt to blend the angry and psychotic Jehovah with the Lord of Love. Still others admit that they still worship the wargod of four millennia in the past-- the primitive, cruel, violent, unjust Jehovah, or some variation. (These are very mixed up, and trying to worship a mean god makes them mean; for people become like the god(s)whom they worship.
And there are many other godimages, of course. But the people of the Way, the people of Love, know precisely Whom and What they worship. For we worship Love. This fills our minds with clarity and joy, our hearts with contentment and fulfillment; for human beings were and are designed to worship Love. It is totally fulfilling and absolutely satisfying, in a way that worship of any false god could never be.
God (Love) fills our lives with deep tranquility, bottomless joy, compassion, tenderness, forgiveness, and everything else that is liberating and joyful.
If you choose to make it clear to your boys that you are a serious worshiper of Love, they will never be misled by the plethora of false gods and nutty ideas proliferating among the cults and denominations. Also, they need not grow up confused. If you answer the nuclear question f all life-- "Who or What is God") then your life has a solid, grounded serenity that is immovable. If this God is your ground of being, your
Source, your Friend, Father, and Mother (in the spiritual world), it gives you a feeling of indisturbable peace. Your life grows imperturbable. Nothing can sway you from this path.
If you walk the Way of Love, you will take an interior vow never voluntarily, deliberately to harm any living creature. (This includes physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual harm.) This keeps you out of trouble.
As an example, sex is one of the most beautiful forms of Love. Yet the honor within the harmless life (your vow) makes you want the very best for yourself. (This arises from self-Love.) The need to "harm no one" includes yourself, and we also try never to harm anyone emotionally. And the very best is a solid, monogamous, faithful relationship with one Soul, your Soul-mate. You trust the Spirit within to guide you towards this very special person. So, Love does not imply promiscuity, but quite the opposite. For promiscuity creates only pain, suffering, misery, and anguish in the long term. Out of self-Love, you will work to develop and cultivate the patience to find your real Soul-mate, for this will lead to a stability in life that reinforces the stability of your interior peace. Self-Love and other-Love change everything for the better.
Other challenges in life, if met with Love, can also be solved through a balanced blend of compassion and reason. This makes life easier and more enjoyable for yourself and for everyone else. You have begun to touch the sense of deep happiness now that your Soul (very deep mind) has begun to "remember" the Way of Love. This will get only better and better in the future. You have begun a long and winding road that will end up in ecstasy, or total joy, which is the will of Love (God) for you. What a sheer delight it is, and how kind of you, to allow us a small window into
your progress and growth. I want to be there always for you, my friend.:)

Sex and Spirituality

Throughout history, some so-called "mystical" groups and teachings have damned all sexual activity for the "enlightened." There has often been more than a touch of superiorism in this selfelevation. And anything that makes the self appear superior is a boost to the ego; hence, it weakens the effect of the Spirit, and is unhealthy. It actually decreases spirituality. For egotism is the worst disease in all of mysticism.
The physical senses are a gift from God. Only extremist fanatics would ever claim that there is anything "wrong" with looking at a beautiful sunset, listening to lovely music, smelling roses, eating cherries, or touching silk or velvet. These are all the senses, and are all designed by God to make this difficult world tolerable.
The Center of every Way of enlightenment is Love. This is not careless, disloyal, betraying Love, but Love that has built within it the joys and glories of loyalty, commitment, selflessness, tenderness, and othercentered compassion.
So, these fine forms of Love do indeed prohibit the sexual carelessness and promiscuity that mark our current culture and society. Love keeps us alert to the fact that good sex is a form of Love. It is sacred, not a game. There can never be any such thing as "recreational" or "casual" sex.
If honorable sex-- that shared with only one's life-companion, one's Love-partner, is indeed a form of Love, it cannot be "bad" or "evil." It is not an act against Love (God), but a very strongly reinforcing act that multiplies and amplifies a very sacred and special form of Love.
Historically, it is a very sad truth that mysticism has often been confused, or entangled , with asceticism-- deprivations and selftorments of many kinds. But those who have tried to blend the two very different paths have been confused. Mysticism never mixes with asceticism, or selfabuse. (The latter is antiagapic, as are all forms of abuse.)
The mystic realizes that this life can be very tough indeed. So, she does everything possible to lessen the shock of this life, to take away pain. (This is why the mystic will use legal drugs to fight pain.) But the fullest, most joyful embrace of life implies much, much more than simply the lessening of pain. For it also must imply the maximization of positive joy. Mystics want to enjoy life-- to have as much fun as
possible, if they can do this without harming the self or any other.
Sex is a natural function. It is as natural as sleeping or eating. The balanced mystic does not allow the body fully to control her. But she always avoids, wisely, all extremes and fanaticism. Engaging in sex moderately is actually a gift that she gives to her body. For sex is a great exercise for the cardiovascular, respiratory, and other systems of the physical body. It is thus a gift given both to the self and to the partner. "So, it expresses Love in two ways simultaneously.
The mystic does not make sex a "religion." She does not want to be obsessed by it, day and night. But it is a very important part or aspect of even advanced spirituality.
It celebrates nature, and is also a very real Way of celebrating God (Love). It is a sacred and holy sharing of a very special Love.
Many complex problems, including pedophilia, have notoriously troubled those who force themselves to be celibate. Why? Because this is unnatural, and even counter-natural. For short times, for her own reasons, a mystic might choose to be celibate. But to try to force this upon the body for long periods is cruelty to both your bodymind and to that of your companion. Cruelty is the opposite of Love.
Since sex is a valid Way of sharing Love, and enforced celibacy is cruelty, the mystic's choice should be obvious. Remember that, as mystics, we avoid all extremes and fanaticisms. We are the people of moderation and Love. So, we need not feel guilty when we reject the asceticism (falsely and ignorantly mistaken for mysticism) that damns normal Love between Love-companions who are monogamous.
Much in religion also puts down sex. This is due to an ancient god --largely the angry, evil god of very ancient peoples-- who damned sex, at least, most of the time. As the people of Love and enlightenment, we are resorting and reverting to the religious toys of toddlers if we turn to this violent, out-of-control, this false, and in many ways, evil god. The free being is free of this primitive religion, and completely liberated from its attitudes. We never want to go back!

(This is why the mystic will use legal drugs to fight pain.) But the fullest, most joyful embrace of life implies much, much more than simply the lessening of pain. For it also must imply the maximization of positive joy. Mystics want to enjoy life-- to have as much fun as
possible, if they can do this without harming the self or any other.
Sex is a natural function. It is as natural as sleeping or eating. The balanced mystic does not allow the body fully to control her. But she always avoids, wisely, all extremes and fanaticism. Engaging in sex moderately is actually a gift that she gives to her body. For sex is a great exercise for the cardiovascular, respiratory, and other systems of the physical body. It is thus a gift given both to the self and to the partner. "So, it expresses Love in two ways simultaneously.
The mystic does not make sex a "religion." She does not want to be obsessed by it, day and night. But it is a very important part or aspect of even advanced spirituality.
It celebrates nature, and is also a very real Way of celebrating God (Love). It is a sacred and holy sharing of a very special Love.
Many complex problems, including pedophilia, have notoriously troubled those who force themselves to be celibate. Why? Because this is unnatural, and even counter-natural. For short times, for her own reasons, a mystic might choose to be celibate. But to try to force this upon the body for long periods is cruelty to both your bodymind and to that of your companion. Cruelty is the opposite of Love.
Since sex is a valid Way of sharing Love, and enforced celibacy is cruelty, the mystic's choice should be obvious. Remember that, as mystics, we avoid all extremes and fanaticisms. We are the people of moderation and Love. So, we need not feel guilty when we reject the asceticism (falsely and ignorantly mistaken for mysticism) that damns normal Love between Love-companions who are monogamous.
Much in religion also puts down sex. This is due to an ancient god --largely the angry, evil god of very ancient peoples-- who damned sex, at least, most of the time. As the people of Love and enlightenment, we are resorting and reverting to the religious toys of toddlers if we turn to this violent, out-of-control, this false, and in many ways, evil god. The free being is free of this primitive religion, and completely liberated from its attitudes. We never want to go back!
