Dearest Friends of the Heart,
As most of you know, Love Ministries has recently started the Love Ministries Federation. This is a Lovebased, cooperative communion of small, independent ministries which care for orphans in the poorest countries on earth.
Many of these orphans have had homes, brothers, sisters, and parents torn away from them through military violence. Some have had their homes, all possessions, pets, and even family-members burned before their little innocent eyes. This is in turn supported by greed, commercialism, and religious bigotry.
These do represent the poorest people on our little planet. The Way of Love is often marked by how we deal with strangers.
As beautiful spring grows into summer, what is the very greatest, the most fundamental, gift that you can give to another?
It is the gift of continued life. We now have a great and wonderful opportunity to give to God's children this very special gift. For only the amount that you would pay for one cd, or one hamburger, you can make the ultimate difference between life and death, survival and perishing. We are accepting donations of as small as three dollars. Due to an almost complete absence of response to this fine program, we are
canceling it for now, as of 033109.

The only reason that we were able to meet our relatively tiny financial goals for the Federation was that Love Ministries USA (lmiusa) added the missing amount. So, as of 040109, we have sent $100 to each of the Federation ministries/orphanages.

Since we have six ministries in the Federation, i.e., Love Ministries of India, Love Ministries of Kenya, Love Ministries of Pakistan, Love Ministries of Rwanda, Love Ministries of Sierra Leone, and Love Ministries of Uganda, our goal for this month was $600.
While donations to larger charities are often ending up in the files or accounts of service-providers and solicitors, phone-bills, electric bills, etc., one hundred percent of all donations to Love Ministries Federation are guaranteed to go straight to the children in need.

E-activism, Part II
In a previous issue of the uld, we suggested that e-activism, involving sending emails to corporations, congress-people, leaders, and signing petitions, is a valid form of Lovexpression-- particularly for those who cannot be mobile, for some reason.
Some of you felt as if this was not enough. And you were right.
True "e-activism" does not end with forwarding emails or signing petitions. These actions, although good and fine, expressing real concern for human beings and other creatures, are only a good start. But to be maximally meaningful, e-activism must include not only fine ideals, but actions that support those fine ideals.
Every group that supports humanity and animals requires money. So do groups that are striving to maintain a reasonable balance with nature(ecology). So, let us prioritize our limited funds, and support these fine causes, walking our talk.
In one evening, fyi, Love Ministries divided up its Love-donations as follows: A check was written to Mercy Corps, the Humane Society,American Friends,Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals,Children International,St. Joseph's School for Native Americans, Amnesty International, the Llamafarm, and Students Against Drunk Driving.
Of course, as all of our friends know, Love Ministries operates on a minimal, "shoestring" budget. This is because Love Ministries almost never receives any Love-donations. There is one wonderful exception, for one of our beloved sisters has donated for years, and on a regular basis, to our Ministries. And we also do have a very few clients who make small but regular donations for counseling. But because we have decided to do all our spiritual work free of charge, free of fees, we do not receive any funds for almost all the work that we do. This includes work connected with the Pneumarium Lightcenter, writing, reading, studying, proofing, rewriting, packagingg, and mailing over twenty books to people open to spiritual development. This ezine (emagazine) together with its "sister" magazine, the ezine Lovelight, which is about twenty pages, and comes out once a month, are also distributed free of all costs.
When performing your e-activism, please do not think that your donations must be large! These charitable orgs are often grateful for donations of as little as $5.
And the checks that we send out are about $5-$20. For it is an undeniable fact that if every group received five or ten dollars from everyone to whom they sent an email, they would be flooded with more money than they could use! So, in a way, small donations can be only symbolic of the things that we really value. But, as the people of Love, we are also the people of compassion. We share a passion to improve the planet! We want life, in fact, improved for every selfaware being!
So, let's not simply talk about these fine ideals. Instead, get yourself on the mailing-lists of any of the excellent causes by responding to their requests, or by sending them $5. For this is an investment in principles in which we all can believe, and, in the end, it is an investment in eternity!

Project K and Support of Ministries
We are prepping this morning [Sunday, January 4] for a Pneumarium-gathering, which we have every two weeks on Sunday. (Usually between five and twenty-some friends show up.:)
Re your note: The final medical appointment, so far, for the donkey [body] is this Tuesday, the sixth. At least, that is the last medical appointment scheduled at present. Sometime after that, we should be able to set the date for the transplant. Our dear friend Sandi, the donor, has also finished with all her tests.
Barring yet another obstacle or detour, we should be ready to set a date pretty soon.:) But life wisely teaches us to live as free of expectations as possible, so,time will tell, and we shall see.:)
Re your other question: We have several books "waiting in the wings" right now, which we cannot afford to publish. There is a four-volume set: One is an intro to the Way of Love, emphasizing its intercultural history; one is about Judaism (largely Kabbalah); one is about Christianity (early history and gnosticism); and one is about Sufism (the poetic tradition within Muslim culture). Another book still waiting is Love and the Cosmos: Seven Thousand Spiritual Verses. This is a collection of selections from the "Universal Love Digest" since its founding, many years ago. And the last "waiting book-to-be" is A Happier Person: How to Become One, a simple and small book which explains many of the practical principles of deeper spirituality, emphasizing "agapology" (the psychology of Love).
Thank you so much for your continued interest in the practical survival of our Love Ministries. We receive donations from practically no one, although there is a very kind Irish family who helps, and another anonymous donor who likes, because she is so beautiful, to remain anonymous. Other than these two or three, no one else has donated to our Ministries regularly enough to be reliable. We have been able to
publish so far because of a real-estate sale made a few years ago, but
now, that fund has been entirely used up. Still, the resources of the cosmos are endless and bottomless, and Love will accomplish Her will, in one way or another-- on that, you can rely!:):)

The Poorest People in the World

Today, 102908, wed, we are delighted to report that, during the last two days, we sent your donations to orphans around the world. Specifically, we sent $84 to each of the following:

If you want to teach only the Love of God, as the primary teaching of Jesus and his disciples, you are welcome to join the Love Ministries Federation. If you do, you are under no obligation. Love Ministries USA publishes two email magazines, the "Universal Love Digest," which comes out every two or three days, and Lovelight magazine, which is released once a month. You are welcome to a free subscription to both.
Periodically, it is our goal financially to support small independent ministries such as yours. This is done by asking our readers to send in donations, which we then divide up among the following members of our Federation (in alphabbetical order):

Love Ministries of Pakistan
Love Ministries of Rwanda

Animalcharities: Using Common Sense and Caution

All charities might be good, but they are not created equal. We should always do everything possible, of course, to support the environment and the biosphere. But, for most of us, money for charity can be extremely, even severely, limited. So, we must use caution and make very careful, thoughtful, and considered choices.
A species might look "cute" from a distance, as is the case with some polar bears or wolves (two of the most popular recent animalcharities). But these creatures might be, in the wild, lethal to human beings and to all other life-forms, especially if they are carnivores.
Do carnivores have the right to exist in peace, undisturbed by human beings? Of course they do, and we should always insist that they have the right to be, as nature itself teaches us. Yet on a planet such as ours, where many other creatures (baby seals, for example) are suffering and dying, and where creatures (such as monkeys) are dying horrible deaths in "scientific" experiments, we can be excused if we prioritize our very scarce dollars to support these creatures before we support the others. Also, and let us never forget this, the most important charities of all include human beings exactly like you and me, who will surely starve if not given aid of some kind. Due to the very nature of things, we think that human charities should come first.
So, when distributing those scarce dollars, let us be careful not to do so carelessly. Let us take our time, think about it, and prioritize. Let us put human beings first, and after them, the most sentient (and harmless) of creatures, including whales, dolphins, monkeys, apes, simians; then, llamas, horses, etc.
Since we are the people of Love, we want to exercise Love in our support of charities as well. There are, of course, no "hard and fast" laws, but these are just some simple suggestions that you might wish to consider.

The REAL McCain
Gas prices are hitting all-time highs. Our country is in the midst of a recession thanks in part to our crippling dependence on oil, so what's John McCain's plan? Will he hold the corporate leaders of the energy industry accountable when he addresses them today in Houston? Probably not, considering they are some of his biggest fund-raisers.
The Center for Responsive Politics finds that McCain has accepted over $1 million from the oil and gas industry. Many of McCain's top advisers have lobbied for big oil, which is why he now acts in their best interests, opposing environmental legislation and alternative energy plans. And that's exactly why we want everyone to know The REAL McCain.

McCain is desperate to distance himself from President Bush. But according to the Center for American Progress Action Fund, McCain has received millions in donations from the same oil, coal, nuclear, chemical, utility, and auto companies that helped the Bush administration create its energy plan-a plan that has raised gasoline to $4 a gallon.

Our position on donations: MINISTRIES AND GREED
In current society, it is despicable and tragic how religion has become interwoven with money. It is an utter catastrophe, and has led to the ruination of the most spiritual ideas of faith. Greed has corrupted, most thoroughly, the entire structure of most organized religions, whether they be giant, international religions or minor microcults. The church is thoroughly rotten with greed. Often, the actual measure of a church is its size, and churches have come to resemble shopping-malls.
The life and ministries of Jesus were far different. He did not even think it important enough to build a physical church or even mention the idea. The scriptures say, however, that even in the very nonmaterialistic ministry of Jesus, he and his disciples did carry a donation-box, out of which they lived. The poor followers of Francis did the same. As in the time of Jesus, money is a necessary evil. (1 Tim. 6:10) Not that money itself is evil; it isn't. But the ancient Christians did believe that the "love of money" was a "root of evil." . Sure enough, every war, many acts of torture, stealing, lying, betrayal, and murder are usually connected with this evil "love".
So, we renounce money as a goal of any truly sincere attempt to serve God (Love). For Jesus said, "You cannot serve God and money." Some translations render this verse, "You cannot serve God and riches." Either way, its intent is crystal clear: You cannot, must not, divide your timenergy between God (Love) and money. And we have no intentions of ever doing so!
We renounce all riches as an "alternative god" to the real God, the God Who is Love! At Love Ministries, we have never sought to make any kind of "profit" on spirituality, and vow that we will never attempt to do so. Our seminars, lectures, and personal interviews and work with students and clients have always been offered free of charge, and we vow to keep this policy in place. Also, our email work, client sessions, telephone work, and distribution of other educational materials are free. And we promise to keep it so.
Sadly, we have had to charge clients, students, and the public for some of our educational materials. Books are larger than the free printed materials that we provide, and we have been forced to pay for the printing of these. But we have never made a penny's profit on any book. We sell them for exactly the cost that we must pay for them, for we do not want to profit on spirituality.
To see spirituality as a "market commodity" is to reduce it to the level of material objects. And spirituality is never for sale, at any price! Nor should it be, under any circumstances!
The Master Jesus was no fanatic. He took a moderate position. He did not call his followers to poverty. But, on the other extreme, he actually discouraged the popular quest for unlimited wealth. When a rich man expressed a desire to follow him, Jesus said, "Go, sell all that you own, and give it to the poor; then follow Me." (Mark 10:21)
This was not a literal command, so that we have to follow it. But it was a giant test of the man's sincerity. To "sell everything" is to let go of the heart-entanglement with riches, the obsession with material wealth- as common in ancient times as it is today. For this path makes greed (fear) your master, and fear is Love's opposite.
But this does not mean that money itself is "bad." We all need to live and to do anything in our world. So, at present, Love Ministries is reaching out for your help. Because of our belief in simplicity, some minimalism, and our anti-materialism, Love Ministries does not have any money for even the best causes.
